RYA Helmsman (Power)
This is a two day course which focuses mostly on practical boat handling, with some theory. This course is most suitable for new boat owners who would like some training specific to their boat. The certificate can be awarded upon successful completion of the two day courses.

RYA Day Skipper (Power)
The RYA Day Skipper (practical) certificate can be issued upon successful completion of the course. The courses are run either over a five day period, or over two long weekends, depending on what suits you. We run these courses on our motor boats from Universal Marina on the River Hamble. These courses run continuously throughout the year, and are the next step up from the Helmsman qualification.

RYA Coastal Skipper (Power)
The RYA Coastal Skipper (practical) certificate can be issued upon successful completion of the course. The courses are run either over a five day period, or over two long weekends, depending on what suits you. We run these courses on our motor boats from Universal Marina on the River Hamble. These courses run continuously throughout the year, and are the next step up from Day Skipper.

Passage Making and Ability as Skipper

Pre-exam requirement:
Radio Operator’s Qualification
First Aid – A valid First Aid certificate
Seatime – 800 miles logged within 10 years prior to examination, 30 days living on board, 2 days as skipper and 12 night hours.

RYA Yachtmaster (Power)
The complete RYA Yachtmaster certificate can be issued upon successful completion of the course. A Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster theory course must have been successfully completed prior to starting the Yachtmaster practical course due to the high level of pilotage, passage planning and navigation that exists on the course. We run the practical 5 day courses on our own motor boats throughout the year. Alternatively we can conduct the course and test on your own boat.
The syllabus includes everything covered in previous courses, and the final examination demands a thorough knowledge of all aspects, as students will be demonstrating their abilities as skipper in all areas, by day and night.
International Certificate of Competence
For this one day assessment / test you are required to have knowledge of and to show practical competance of basic boat handling, seamanship, navigation and rules of the road up to the standards required to drive a motor cruiser safely by day. This enables you to gain the minimum requirements needed to drive a motor cruiser overseas.
